Band of Brothers:
Gentlemen, the fall campaign is upon us! The territory has been scouted out and strategy is taking shape. Band of Brothers for the fall will begin on Thursday, September 15th and go through November 18th.
The Orders of the Day are....gather at 6:00 a.m. in Massey Tucker Hall for a wonderful breakfast prepared by our first class kitchen crew. The talk of the day begins at 6:30 a.m. At 7:00 a.m., the squads break into their small group time.
This fall, we will learn lessons from the Band of Brothers video series and book. The stories of E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne during the European campaign are captivating and inspiring. Noted author Stephen Ambrose wrote the book upon which the video series, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, is based on. We will view video clips and draw from the four essential virtues consistently woven through the experiences of Easy Company. They are courage, determination, loyalty and friendship.
Brothers, shoulder to shoulder, in the discipleship journey. This is our mission. We shall gather on Thursdays at dawn this fall. The men of E Company did what they did for each other. We do it for each other and our Lord. Contact Rev. Mike Fry for information or if you have questions: mfry@houstonsgrace.org, 713/267-5066.
The Encore 50+ Ministry
at Grace enables our senior members to enter or maintain full participation in the life and leadership of the total church community while continuing to address the specific needs of senior adults, as well as encouraging the whole church community to recognize and employ the gifts of older adults.
This ministry helps serve the needs of the segment of our congregation age 50+. We offer relevant programs covering a broad spectrum of interests at various times through out each month. A planning committee of members in the fellowship choose the programs and activities which are then arranged by the resource person.
About twice a month, the group travels by bus or van to to some place of special interest. These trips usually take most of the day and include a lunch stop. The cost is nominal. A monthly calendar of events with details is mailed to all adults age 50 or older in the congregation. Anyone who would like to participate is welcome. If there is an event, activity, program or day trip you wish to attend and you have a transportation need, please call Michele Shultz at 713-267-5020 for assistance.
