HOLLY HALL BOOK REVIEWS
The Holly Hall Book Review season begins Wednesday, September 29, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer. Season tickets for 4 reviews are $25, and individual tickets are $10. Proceeds from the sale of these tickets are used to cover the "cost of care" for those residents who, over time, may no longer afford to do so at this Christian Retirement Community south of the Texas Medical Center.
The first review will be by Rose-Mary Rumley on Everything I Need to Know I Learned From a Children's Book: Life Lessons from Notable People from All Walks of Life by Anita Silvey. The author asked over one hundred admired leaders in our society and learned about the books that shaped financiers, actors, singers, athletes, activists, artists, comic book creator, novelists, illustrators, and teachers.
Additional dates of book reviews will be October 26, January 26, and March 29. Call Sarah Howell at 713-784-2534 for ticket information or other questions. And invite your friends and fellow circle members to go with you!
ANNUAL PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN OF NEW COVENANT FALL RETREAT ON OCTOBER 15-16
CHO YEH CONFERENCE CENTER IN LIVINGSTON, TX
Get to know other women in our Presbytery and enjoy the beautiful "piney woods" of East Texas by coming to this retreat, beginning with dinner on Friday and ending about 4 p.m. on Saturday. The theme is "Good Habits, Holy Lives," and the featured speaker and worship leader is Rev. Pat Felter from Austin who is very involved with Solar Under the Sun, a new special project of our Synod of the Sun. Pat believes that Christ calls people into new life with new opportunities and that caring for our environment is vital for faithful stewardship. There are also opportunities for choosing 2 out of the 4 workshops offered, participating in games and crafts, enjoying lots of good food and snacks, and experiencing Christian fellowship. Accommodations are in hotel-style rooms with 1-3 people to a room. Complete program and registration information is available at the Presbytery web site: www.pbyofnewcovenant.org, click on Quick Find and then Presbyterian Women.
